We assume that they were stolen by yellow vests. Of course, this is not true, but the current situation in the French capital is conducive to such thoughts: during the day, demonstrators dissatisfied with the increase in oil prices, demanding the resignation of the current President Emmanuel Macron, arrange processions, blocking the way to transport, and at night crowds of people shout loudly in their melodious language, making it difficult for the less conscious citizens and ordinary tourists to sleep. In general, a mess. The event itself was held on a covered parking lot, furnished in the style of shelters from the game, and because of all these mass disturbances in the country it was somewhat difficult to understand – it was the decorators’ idea, or the participants of the protest movement actually live here.

Moving to the capital

Surely many of you remember the announcement of The Division in 2013. Then the frosty New York struck the imagination with its beauty and elaboration, and the opportunity to smoothly close the door, leaning against the car, caused puppy-like delight. Unfortunately, on the embrace with corners and shelters, all interactivity with the outside world, in fact, ended, but in terms of design, the city had practically no competitors. Abandoned cars and belongings, rare surviving people and animals, flying debris and snow due to wind gusts, changeable weather and changing the time of day – all this created a convincing atmosphere of a megapolis quarantine. And then suddenly warm and sunny Washington.

Like many, I was not originally hooked on a new place of action. Not helped to penetrate the capital of the United States and a short game session at E3. However, after running around the streets for five hours and examining the local sights, I came to the conclusion that the locations here are in no way inferior to the original. In Washington, there are more open spaces and no skyscrapers, but the city is crammed with America’s best architectural structures, and the greenery, which is bursting in from everywhere, turns it into the stone jungle. With HDR enabled, the picture looks especially juicy. The decor is reminiscent of individual levels from The Last of Us or Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, only the scales here are completely different.

But, as before, all this is just a decoration. You can not go to all the buildings, and destructibility is very limited. Even cars suspended on cranes cannot be dropped on anyone’s head, although they could not only cause substantial damage to opponents but also create additional shelters. The latter is precisely due to the static nature of the world. The bullets find the hero with deadly accuracy, so you have to constantly hide behind the improvised and not very barriers placed here and there. If, however, allow players to everything, it will hit the balance and alignment of forces on the battlefield. In this case, even the partners will not save, although in general, it is both easier and more fun to run around with a quartet. So we have to manage only explosive red barrels and cylinders, so as not to change the appearance of the terrain beyond recognition.

From dirt to Kings

After the events of the original, seven months passed. Despite the quarantine, a dangerous dollar flu broke out of New York and looked into nearby Washington. The last agent, if you had him, apparently turned out to be less agile and remained sitting in his snow den, so you have to re-create the hero. For the performance of special tasks in the first part, you can get a number of buns for the sequel, but the pumping still starts from scratch.

Our freshly blasted beggar pretty quickly gets to the reception at the White House and begins to restore order in the district, where three hostile factions are already rampaging: “Hyenas”, “Rogues” and “True Sons”. In general, again in their own way crazy people, ready to cut each other’s throats for influence in the city. We will have to deal with their destruction. Shooting at its core remained the same – fell, roll and hide – but it feels more pleasant. It became easier to aim and get into the head – whether the weapon behaves more responsively, or whether the enemies stopped building themselves so strongly from Neo and shy away from incoming queues.

The main problem of the original was the lack of content after reaching the maximum level. You had to either go through the second round of the story on high complexity or entertain yourself in the “Dark Zone” – it is also PvP mode. The first full supplement had to wait for three months. During this time, the “Division” managed to lose part of the audience, and then also divided the rest into two parts, because the DLC was paid. The following supplements did not improve the situation, although the game itself was diversified and refined. The Division 2 makes every effort to avoid a similar fate at the start.

In order to keep you in Washington for as long as possible, upon reaching level 30, you will discover three specializations: a good shooter, a survival expert, and a demolition man. Each “profession” contains its own tree of skills and a unique weapon, which, however, requires special (and quite rare) cartridges. Fortunately, it is allowed to switch between roles freely, so that you can choose the style that suits you best, and so that four identical fighters do not run in your squad. Of course, no one forbids to fight alone, but the full game is revealed only with close interaction with friends. Besides, it’s not at all a fact that the particularly dangerous grouping “Black Fangs”, which you will encounter in the “endgame”, will succeed in eliminating it alone.

In the second half of the beta version, we just went to deal with this special squad. It seemed that no one could stop us with the “purple” clothes, but excessive arrogance disappeared after the first skirmish. The capital guys understand the technology and armed with all sorts of drones, radio-controlled cars with explosives and other robots, which, on the one hand, diversified and added to the list of opponents, and on the other – notably complicated our lives. Voice chat was torn from the mat and curses, while we with pain and suffering broke through the crowds of enemies. However, it was so ugly, epic and testosterone, that we were seriously upset when the game session came to an end.

Now just can not wait to see what kind of “meat” is waiting for players in the promised raid on release after eight people. And in general, it is curious to look at the development of The Division 2. The authors refused a seasonal season ticket so as not to split up the community, and promise to release three free episodes in the first year. It is possible that then paid supplements will follow, but for now, everything is limited to a “cosmetic” donate. This assured us attended the Paris event game director Mathias Carlson (Mathias Karlson). He also confirmed that the extra space in the cache, which is given for the purchase of the Ultimate Edition, will be available to all players, it will just have to be pumped through – it is impossible to acquire the “expander” separately, thereby saving time. And this is a commendable approach.

Ubisoft is able to make sequels. There is no need to go far for examples, take at least Assassin’s Creed II and Watch Dogs 2. So the second “Division” looks like a modified and finished version of the original. She does not try to step into new territory in the genre, but simply takes into account previous mistakes and shortcomings and tries to correct them. And if the game does not have technical problems (and I haven’t noticed a single bug on Xbox One X for five hours), then according to the laws of logic, its ratings should be slightly higher than the first part, that is, for 80 points.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 was released on March 15 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and the digital version for personal computers will appear only in Uplay and the Epic Games Store. Matthias Carlson assures that the developer studioMassive Entertainment has nothing to do with the decision to bypass the Valvesite.
