There’s an online petition and everything, because of course there is
So far, Epic has proven itself pretty good at listening to the community for new Fortnite Battle Royale ideas. Points of interest, costumes, and hot-fixes have all been added in response to fan requests, but the latest online petition for the online free-to-play shooter is surely one of the strangest yet.
Someone called Kody Keddie has created a change.org petition to get Epic to “Add the ability to thank the bus driver before jumping out of the battle bus in Fortnite.” Better yet, it already has over 4000 signatures, getting ever closer to its 5000 goal with each passing minute.
“Since I was just a boy I have always loved jumping out of the battle bus”, reads the petition’s description, “but all this time I have felt something was missing. And that thing is the ability to thank the driver of the battle bus, he or she is truly a great person and they provide us a great service, I think it is time we can truly appreciate thair[sic] service, don’t you agree?”.
I do agree, Kody, especially speaking as someone from Britain, where awkwardly thanking the bus driver is practically enshrined within our sovereign constitution. It gets even better in the petition’s comments section, with choice bon mots like “I cannot sleep at night knowing that a bus driver is forced to drive that battle bus 24/7”, and “This battle bus driver has changed lives is all I’m saying.”
Goodness knows if Epic Games will actually take up Kody on his offer, but one could certainly theorise about how the mechanic might be implemented. Would there be a speech wheel for players to express their gratitude in different ways? Could you possibly tip the driver with some of your V-Bucks? Maybe one day we’ll even be able to see what’s going on inside that damn automobile, and see this anonymous bus pilot for ourselves in person.
I’ve reached out to Epic for comment on the matter (I’m dead serious), asking whether there is indeed a driver at all, or if this whole petition is rendered futile by automated balloon-powered bus technology. I’ll keep you informed of any response but, for now, this petition is one of the sweetest things to have come out of the Fortnite phenomenon so far.
